1. Introduction

At CS2ServerList, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services.

CS2ServerList is operated by an individual developer (the "Operator"), who acts as the data controller. Contact: support@cs2serverlist.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information: When you register through Steam, we collect your Steam ID, username, and avatar hash.
Discord Integration: When you link your Discord account, we store only your Discord user ID in our database to enable Discord integrations. Discord usernames and avatars are obtained from Discord during the linking process and may also be fetched per session through our Discord Bot when you share Discord servers with our bot. This profile information is used for display purposes and is not permanently stored in our database.
User Role Information: We store your role on our platform (e.g., user, admin) to manage permissions.
Server Information: Details about servers you add or manage, including player counts, server status, and other metrics used for ranking.
Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our website, including which servers you view or add to favorites.
Session and technical data: Session identifiers, approximate location derived from IP (see Geolocation below), and similar technical data needed to operate the site.
Cookies: Essential session cookies and similar technologies required for login and site functionality (see Cookies and Sessions).

3. Geolocation

We may process your IP address to determine approximate location for distance-related features. We do not use it to automatically change which servers appear on the main list unless you apply a distance or country filter yourself.

When we use it

Distance filter and sort: When you select a distance range or sort by distance, we compare server coordinates to your approximate location. Login is not required — we may resolve approximate coordinates in your browser session when you use the site (including a background request on page load).
Server pages: We may show estimated distance to a server using server-side IP geolocation (for example MaxMind GeoIP data on the web server).
Filter UI: Your region may be used to order country/region options (for example your continent first). This is display-only and does not auto-filter results.

Sources and storage

Sources: Server-side geolocation (such as MaxMind GeoIP environment data) and, when needed, third-party lookup services including ipinfo.io.
Data used: Country, region, continent, and approximate latitude/longitude.
Storage: We do not permanently store your full IP address in our user account database for this purpose. Derived location values may be held temporarily in your browser session while you browse, whether or not you are logged in.
Third parties: When ipinfo.io is used, your IP is sent to that provider. Review their privacy policy for how they handle requests.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

To provide and maintain our services
To authenticate your identity via Steam
To allow you to manage your servers and favorite listings
To collect and analyze server statistics for our ranking system
To improve our website and user experience
To communicate with you about your account or our services

5. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on the following bases:

Contract / service delivery: Account login, server listing, favorites, communities, and features you request.
Legitimate interests: Security, abuse prevention, ranking and statistics, service improvement, and approximate geolocation for distance features—balanced against your rights.
Consent: Optional integrations such as linking Discord (you may withdraw by unlinking).
Legal obligation: When we must retain or disclose data to comply with law or valid authority requests.

6. Server Statistics and Ranking

Our platform collects and processes data about registered servers, including:

Player counts and capacity
Server uptime and reliability
Game modes and maps
Response times and performance metrics

This data is used to calculate server rankings, track trends over time (up to 30 days), and provide users with accurate server information. Server statistics are visible to all users of the platform.

7. CS2 Server List Windows App

Our optional Windows desktop application helps you browse and join CS2 servers from your PC or through an in-game overlay. This section describes what the app does with your information.

7.1 Data stored on your computer

The following stays on your device (typically under %LOCALAPPDATA%\CS2ServerList\) and is not uploaded to our servers as account data:

Favorite servers and recently visited servers (history)
Filter and tab preferences
App settings such as “start with Windows” and your overlay hotkey

7.2 Data the app requests from CS2ServerList

To function, the app connects to our services to retrieve the same public information available on the website, including:

Server listings, filter options (game modes, countries), and live updates via our server hub
Public server detail and player list API responses when you open a server

When the app connects to our server hub, we may log a routine connection event (including app name, client version, and connection metadata such as IP address and timestamp) to operate and secure the service. We do not use the desktop app to collect Steam credentials, Discord data, in-game chat, or gameplay telemetry.

7.3 Distance and geolocation in the app

If you use distance-based sorting or filtering, the app may contact ipinfo.io to estimate your approximate latitude and longitude from your IP address. Those coordinates are used locally on your PC to calculate distances; we do not permanently store them in your website account from the desktop app.

7.4 Connecting to servers

When you choose to join a server, the app launches Counter-Strike 2 through Steam using a steam:// connect link. That action is handled by Steam and Valve on your machine; we do not receive your Steam password.

8. Authentication Systems

8.1 Steam Authentication

We use Steam's OpenID for authentication. When you log in:

You are redirected to Steam to authenticate
After authentication, Steam provides us with your Steam ID
We use the Steam API to retrieve your public profile information (username, avatar)
We never have access to your Steam password or other sensitive credentials

8.2 Discord Integration

When you choose to link your Discord account for server integrations:

You are redirected to Discord to authorize our application
After authorization, Discord provides us with your Discord user ID, username, and avatar
Database Storage: We store only your Discord user ID in our database to enable Discord server integrations
Profile Information Sources: Discord usernames and avatars are obtained from Discord during the OAuth linking process and may also be fetched per session through our Discord Bot when you share Discord servers with our bot. This information is used for display purposes and is not permanently stored in our database.
We never have access to your Discord password or private messages
You can unlink your Discord account at any time, which will remove the Discord ID from our database

Discord Integration Purpose

Discord integration is used solely for:

Posting server status updates to Discord channels
Managing Discord server integrations for your game servers
Verifying your permissions in Discord servers for integration setup

10. Subprocessors and Third-Party Services

We use trusted third parties to operate CS2ServerList, including:

Valve / Steam — authentication and public profile data
Discord — optional account linking and bot integrations
ipinfo.io — IP-based geolocation lookups when used
MaxMind (or equivalent server geolocation data) — regional hints from server environment
Hosting and infrastructure providers — servers, databases, and email delivery
Payment provider — processing Premium purchases (we do not receive or store full card numbers)

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. International transfers may occur when a provider is located outside your country.

11. Cookies and Sessions

We use strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies, including:

Session cookie — keeps you logged in and stores temporary session values (including optional geolocation fields).
Security-related session settings — HttpOnly and Secure flags where supported.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies on the core site. You can control cookies through your browser; disabling session cookies may prevent login from working.

12. Data Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:

Account data: While your account exists and for a reasonable period after deletion to handle disputes, security, and backups.
Server and statistics data: While the server is listed and for operational/historical periods needed for rankings and analytics (typically up to 30 days of granular stats, longer aggregates where anonymized).
Session data: Until the session expires or you log out.
Support and export requests: As long as needed to fulfill the request and comply with law.

We may retain anonymized or aggregated data that no longer identifies you.

13. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

The right to access your personal information
The right to rectify inaccurate information
The right to delete your personal information
The right to restrict processing of your personal information
The right to data portability

15. Data Export

You have the right to request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. You can request your data in either JSON or CSV format, and it will be sent to your email address.

Types of Data Included in Export

Your data export will include:

Your account information (Steam ID, username, avatar hash)
Discord user ID (if you have linked your Discord account)
Servers you own or manage
Communities you belong to
Your favorite servers
Any other personal data associated with your account

Note: Discord username and avatar information are obtained from Discord during account linking and may be fetched through our Discord Bot, but are not permanently stored in our database, therefore they are not included in the export.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
